Thomas Benton “Tom” McGill Sr., 96, of Shelbyville died September 6, 2021.   

A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.  No other services are scheduled. 

He was born in Bedford County August 19, 1925; served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from BellSouth after 50 years of service. He was a member of Fairlane Church 

of Christ, formerly Main Street Church of Christ, for 96 years and served as a deacon for approximately 30 years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.S. McGill Sr. and Annie Campbell McGill and a brother, Robert Stanley McGill Jr. 

Tom is survived by his wife of 71 years, Katherine Turner McGill; daughters, Dianne McGill Calahan (Mike) of Brentwood and Lisa McGill Miller (Larry) of Chattanooga; son, Thomas Benton McGill Jr. (Sharron) of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

Tom has left his family with a legacy of service, wisdom, gratitude and a renewed hope in the Lord. His prayer always included the following: “Lord help us to know if someone needs us today and help us to know what and how to help them.  Please help ALL of us to live for you.”
