A man who allegedly forced his way into an ex-girlfriend's Shoma Drive home on New Year's morning and attacked her was found by police and arrested later in the day.

Joel Adam Alexander, 57, of Murfreesboro broke and climbed through a window, punched the victim in the face and strangled her to near-unconsciousness, Officer Matt Sharp of the Shelbyville Police Department said.

The victim told police Alexander texted her, "Ha Ha", after the alleged assault.

Rutherford County deputies were notified to be on the lookout for Alexander's green Jaguar. Alexander was stopped and arrested near Murfreesboro, Sharp said.

Cuts and dried blood were on Alexander's hands, Sharp said. Alexander allegedly claimed he had fallen at a party in Murfreesboro.

After his arrest, Alexander was treated at Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital for a cut he allegedly attempted to hide from corrections officers.

Alexander was charged with aggravated burglary, vandalism and aggravated domestic assault and released on $37,000 bond.

**Vehicle burglary

A burglary suspect spent the early hours of New Year's Day stealing instead of celebrating, according to Shelbyville police.

Jacob Ryan Beasley, 24, of North Thompson Street is charged with auto burglary (vehicle parts), theft of property, vandalism, unlawful possession of a weapon, and two counts of failure to appear on previous charges.

Beasley allegedly took a 12-gauge shotgun and speaker box after smashing the rear window of a vehicle on Lentz Street after midnight New Year's morning, police were told.

A North Thompson Street neighbor told Officer Laterra Clay he saw a man matching Beasley's description dropping off a large box behind a nearby business. The speaker box was found as Beasley's girlfriend's mother drove by slowly, was stopped by police and confirmed his identity.

Beasley was found at a nearby home, where Officer Michael Taylor noticed ceiling insulation on his clothing, checked the attic and found the weapon.

Jail records indicated Beasley is being held on $20,000 bond.

**Drug charges

-Methamphetamine and unprescribed prescription drugs were discovered during a vehicle search at a North Cannon Boulevard parking lot early Saturday, police said.

Faith Marie Kelso, 37, of Troupe Road and Peyton Nicholas Garrett, 23, of Cherokee Drive were charged after their car's owner notified police he wanted it returned. The owner alleged he'd loaned it to a friend and discovered it was being used in connection with drug use.

Kelso was charged with possession of schedule II, IV and V drugs and paraphernalia and introducing contraband into a penal institution. She was held on $9,000 bond.

Garrett, who told police he'd just met Kelso, was charged with two counts of simple possession and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and held on $2,500 bond.

-Marijuana became an unwanted snack for a suspect accused of tampering with evidence Saturday, according to a Shelbyville Police Department report.

Lawrence Alexander Boone, 34, of Murfreesboro allegedly swallowed an undetermined amount of marijuana as he was being pulled over for a window tint violation on North Main Street.

Boone drove some distance at a very slow speed before stopping, Officer Ramon Castillo said. Castillo noted Boone was making "furtive movements" inside the vehicle and, upon pulling to a stop, had marijuana residue around his mouth. The vehicle's interior smelled of marijuana, Castillo said.

Charges of tampering with evidence, evading arrest and a window tint violation were filed against Boone, who was held on $4,500 bond.

-Steven L. Stith was cited for simple possession, driving without a license, seat belt and registration violations during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon on Hobson Avenue.

Stith was initially noticed driving without a seat belt by Officer Ramon Castillo. A bag containing .02 grams of marijuana was allegedly found inside Stith's SUV.
