UNIONVILLE — The Community Viqueens jumped out to a 7-0 halftime lead and added two second half goals to end the game as the Viqueens defeated the Cannon County Lionettes 9-0 in a District 6-A soccer matchup Tuesday night.
Community (6-2-1, 3-1-1) peppered the Lionette goal throughout the first half, but did not find the back of the net until midway through the half as six Viqueen shots caromed off the posts. The Viqueens finally broke the ice as Addison Brothers rebounded a shot into the net with 21:19 remaining to give Community a 1-0 lead.
Once the floodgates were opened, the Viqueens continually added to their lead. Audrina Bearden and Anna Haskins scored goals 26 seconds apart to put Community up 3-0 with 17:23 left.
The Viqueens finished their first half scoring with four more goals as Zoey Dixon and Abby Murrill each scored twice as Community went into the intermission with a 7-0 lead.
"We were all over the goal. We created good opportunities," Coach Chris Brothers of the Viqueens said.
"Later in the half we finally calmed down on the shots and found the back of the net," Brothers added.
The second half only lasted eight minutes as Dixon connected on a penalty kick to complete the hat trick while Jennifer Zuniga added the final goal of the night as the match ended with the nine-goal margin.
Six different Viqueens tallied goals in the contest.
"We've have that several different games this year where we've had four or five girls scoring goals," Brothers said. "They're spreading it around really well. They're passing the ball well and working and getting good looks."
"The defense is playing outstanding," Brothers added. "We haven't had many goals scored on us this year so I'm proud of how they're playing."
