BELL BUCKLE — After falling to Forrest on Monday afternoon, the Cascade Lady Champions rebounded to keep their postseason alive by shutting out Grundy County on Tuesday afternoon, 10-0.
Cascade needed just three hits to knock the Lady Yellowjackets from the tournament, but relied on a combined one-hitter between Katelyn Lambert and Brianna Horn to end the game in five innings.
After a scoreless first frame, Cascade posted four runs in the bottom of the second to break the game open.
Claire Perry knocked in the first run on a sac-fly to left, scoring Horn.
Addison Pope added to the lead with a RBI single to right. Alivia Fannin also scored on a throwing error as well.
Alyana Cruse ground into a fielder’s choice, but drove in the fourth run of the inning.
Cascade slammed the door shut on Grundy’s season in the fourth inning by plating six runs on a two RBI double by Christina Bilbro, two passed balls that scored Christina Bilbro and Kyndal Bolden and a second sac-fly by Perry.
Lambert pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up one hit before Horn pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and struck out four without giving up a hit.
Cascade hopes to keep its season alive on Wednesday afternoon against in-county rival Community, with the winner advancing to the District 7-AA championship to face Forrest.
