Nikki Quinlan started Asé Apothecary in the throes of COVID-19, selling natural herbal infusion remedies from her house. Now, 5 years later, she is running a full-time business near the heart of town.
“I opened March 15th,” Nikki said, “Got the building in January, had to remodel, then finally opened. I was doing it out of my house for a few years starting around COVID [in 2020] and I had a little honor system at first. It started with just elderberry syrup, then I started adding and making more things and it just went on from there.”
After recently stepping down from her previous job to pursue her passion full-time, she is now able to keep Asé Apothecary open six days a week – 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays and 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Nikki offers over 150 herbs, botanicals, and roots infused into a variety of mediums, including Herbal oils, Seamoss, local honey, and homemade loose-leaf tea blends, among other products.
Her highest sellers are the oils, which are designed to treat and assist with a wide range of conditions, including sleep aid, nausea suppression, and hormonal imbalances, among others.
“They say that it [infusing oils] takes about 30 minutes, but I infuse mine for days,” she said, “I’ll let it go 10 hours overnight, and then come back the next morning for 10 more hours.”
She does encourage customers and potential customers to consult with their doctors about any potential conflicting medications before trying anything.
Her business also offers weekly yoga sessions on Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., weather permitting. Also, starting in January, Asé Apothecary will be hosting sound bath events at the Shelbyville Recreation Center on two Fridays per month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
