Town water-sewer rates high point of Wartrace meeting

Posted

On Wednesday night, Wartrace residents attended a special meeting, particularly to hear what was being discussed about potential water and sewer rate increases.
The jest of the meeting:
• The vote on the rate increase is still deferred.
• A new rate study is going to be completed.
• Any increases will be phased in over roughly 4 years, rather than all at once.
Aldermen plan to go ahead and increase the rates despite the requested study.
One resident commented today, “
In September, residents received a notice of the proposed water base fee of $50 and a sewer base rate of $60 a month. With a full house at the last meeting on this issue and hundreds of signatures against, the vote was deferred on rate increase.
In other news, Wartrace is considering (by referendum on November ballot) whether to have liquor by the drink. A meeting is planned on this topic for Saturday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Fred Russell Gym.
