Career-High 27 Points From Watson Leads Cascade To Blowout Win Over Moore County

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. – A career-high 27 points on eight three-pointers from new sixth-man, Noah Watson, helped the Cascade Champions (9-7, 0-1) complete the season sweep on the road against the Moore County Raiders (2-13, 0-1) on Tuesday night., 78-31.

Chris Lawson made a slight tweak to his starting lineup for the first time this season for this game, swapping the scorching-hot Tyler Barrett for a struggling Watson, and this change prompted a historic display of shooting from the junior transfer from Community. Watson came into Tuesday’s matchup having made just nine threes all season while averaging just 6.5 PPG, and he nearly matched that total with eight in one game to score a game-high 27 points.

Kaleb Kelso and Jason Cullum also reached double-figures scoring with Kelso finishing with 18 points while Cullum got back on track with 14 points from four three-pointers of his own.

For Moore County, Gavin Wise was the only one who managed to eclipse the 10-point mark, finishing with a team-high 12 points that all came in the first half.

Cascade, who scored 27 points off 19 Raiders’ turnovers in the first matchup, did more of the same in the second game, turning defense into offense with a 31-point first quarter, taking a 31-11 lead. Justin Brown called two timeouts within the opening five minutes to try and jump-start his struggling Raiders, but nothing Moore County tried could slow down the Champs’ avalanche.

Cascade came somewhat down to Earth in the second quarter, *only* outscoring Moore County, 17-9, to take a commanding 48-20 lead into the halftime locker room. Kelso led the way at the intermission with 13 points, while Watson had already connected on four triples for 12 points. Cullum also had 11 points at the break.

Cullum started the third quarter connecting on another three-pointer, and then Watson came back in off the bench as the sixth-man, continuing his torrid shooting display. Cascade took a 67-28 lead into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, Watson punctuated his night with his eighth three-pointer and a runaway rimgrazing dunk before Lawson emptied the bench. The result was merely a formality, and when the final buzzer sounded, Cascade was on top by 47 points, 78-31.

Moore County falls to 2-13 (0-1).

Cascade improves to 9-7 (0-1) and will return home to take on Chapel Hill on Friday night, LIVE on The Zinger 100.9 starting at 5:45 p.m.
