BELL BUCKLE, Tenn. – The Cascade Champions (9-6) won their third-consecutive game on Tuesday night after blowing out the Huntland Hornets (4-11), 78-57.
Henry Stone led all scorers with 18 points for Cascade. Cooper McElroy bounced back after a scoreless outing on Friday with 16 points, Kaleb Kelso added 12 points, Tristin Billings scored nine points, and Tyler Rodgers chipped in with eight points. As a team, the Champions found the range from outside, connecting on 11 three-pointers.
For Huntland, Micah Tipps connected on five triples – with four in the second half – and finished with a team-high 17 points. Caleb Maxwell was the only other Hornet to reach double-figures, tallying 13 points on the night.
Cascade jumped out to an early 11-0 lead by turning Huntland turnovers into easy buckets on the other end. Huntland responded with an 8-0 run of their own to cut the lead down to three points, but then the Champions responded by outscoring the Hornets 10-5 to finish the opening period with a 21-13 lead.
In the second quarter, the Champions stretched out their lead to 15 at the break, punctuated by a Cooper McElroy fastbreak dunk following a Huntland turnover to beat the first half buzzer and send the hosts into the halftime locker room with a 40-25 lead.
In the second half, Cascade continued to grow its lead, outscoring Huntland 22-10 in the third quarter to balloon its lead to 62-35 heading into the final frame.
As the fourth quarter progressed, both teams eventually emptied their benches, resulting in Huntland outscoring Cascade by six, 22-16, in the final eight minutes. Despite this, Cascade still managed to win by 21 points thanks to the dynamic trio of Henry Stone, Cooper McElroy, and Kaleb Kelso combining for 23 points in the second half alone.
The Champions improve to 9-6 overall. Cascade opens the District 9-AA slate on Friday night at The Stable against the defending Class AA State Champions, the Loretto Mustangs, at 7:30 p.m. LIVE on The Zinger 100.9 and AM 1400.
