WINCHESTER, Tenn. – The Cascade Champions (1-0) led by as much as 38 points at an overmatched Franklin County (0-1) on Tuesday night, ultimately taking home the season-opening win by that margin, 66-28.
Kaleb Kelso led all scorers with 16 points, Tyler Rodgers added 13 points, and Noah Watson chipped in with 11 points to spark the visitors to the big win.
Jayden Cisco was the only Rebel to reach double figures with 11 points. Monte Johnson chipped in with eight points of his own, but the hosts struggled to get anything going against the tenacious Cascade defense. The Champions forced more than 20 turnovers on the night with the majority of them directly leading to easy baskets on the offensive end.
Cascade took a 19-9 lead after the opening period, and the lead only continued to grow in the second quarter. The Champs held a 33-13 lead until the Rebels went on a 5-0 mini-run to draw within 15 points, 33-18, heading into the halftime locker room.
In the third quarter, the visitors put together their best quarter of the night, outscoring the Rebels 25-7 to take a commanding 58-25 lead going into the final frame.
Cascade kept up the defensive intensity despite the massive lead, holding the Rebels to just three points in the fourth quarter to take home the 66-28 victory.
Franklin County falls to 0-1 and will travel to Cannon County on Thursday night.
Cascade improves to 1-0 and will host Class A State Tournament favorites, Eagleville, in the season’s home-opener on Friday night, LIVE on The Zinger 100.9 and AM 1400 starting at 5:45 p.m.
