BELL BUCKLE, Tenn. – The Cascade Champions (4-6, 1-4) took down the Community Vikings (0-10, 0-5), 48-0, at The Stable on Senior Night to win their eighth-straight in the annual “Battle of Bedford” to close out Region 4-AAA play.
After opening the game with a 67-yard catch-and-run swing pass to Nate Zimmerman following a holding penalty, Kaden Hill would run it in from six yards out for his first rushing touchdown of the season to complete the 3-play scoring drive. Cascade converted the two-point conversion, taking an early 8-0 lead with 9:55 remaining in the first quarter.
The Vikings responded with a three-and-out and punted the ball back to Cascade, but the shanked punt traveled just two net yards to give the hosts possession starting in the red zone. 49 seconds later, senior Reidy Brainard scored his first career touchdown on a one-yard plunge with 6:31 to go in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead.
On Community’s second play of the next possession, Cascade’s Cain Harden fell on a fumbled snap to give possession back to the Champions on the Vikings’ 18-yard line. One play later, ZeShawn Swaggerty scored his first touchdown at Cascade on an 18-yard counter run to take a 21-0 lead with 5:32 left in the first quarter.
After both teams traded scoreless drives, Nate Zimmerman scored his seventh touchdown of the season from a yard out to give Cascade a 28-0 lead with 8:45 to go in the first half to cap off a 23-yard scoring drive.
Then, after another Community punt, Braxtyn Burris found Corey Gooch in the back of the end zone on a double-reverse pass from 31-yards out for his first passing touchdown of the season, growing the Cascade lead to 36-0 after a successful two-point conversion with 6:12 left in the half.
Kaden Hill opened the scoring in the second half after a five-plus minute scoring drive, finding the end zone from eight yards out to take a 42-0 lead with 2:20 left in the third.
Then, Dustin Pinder capped off the dominant defensive performance by tacking on one more touchdown with a 15-yard scoop-and-score to take a 48-0 lead with just over 10 minutes left in the game.
In total, Cascade ran for 114 yards on 20 carries, led by Nate Zimmerman’s 51 yards rushing and two touchdowns on nine attempts. Sam Bradley finished 3/10 for 83 yards while Burris went 1/1 for 31 yards and one touchdown.
Community was led by Severen Garman’s 42 yards rushing on 14 carries, but in total the Vikings struggled to get anything going offensively.
Community’s season finishes at 0-10.
Cascade’s season finishes at 4-6.
