City defers rezoning of Baum property

City Council has deferred back to the Planning Commission for further study an ordinance for the rezoning of 48.73 (+/-) acres owned by James Baum and Elisabeth Gallun, located on the North Side of Union Street West of Jennings LN and referenced on Bedford County Tax Map 079 Parcel 014.00 From Residential – 1 (Low Density Residential District) to Residential -2 (Low Density Residential District.) This was an item which originally received an unfavorable recommendation from the Planning Commission with a 6:3 vote.
As well, City Council deferred back to the Planning Commission for further study an ordinance to approve the rezoning of 18.19 (+/-) acres owned by James Baum and Elisabeth Gallun, located on the North Side of Union Street West of Jennings LN and referenced on Bedford County Tax Map 068 Parcel 120.00 From Residential-1 (Low Density Residential District) to Residential -2 (Low Density Residential District. ) This item also received an unfavorable recommendation from the Planning Commission with a 6:3 vote.
The applicant, according to Waleed Albakry, director of planning and community development, will need to reapply for the rezoning. Councilman Henry Feldhaus made a motion that the applicants not have to resubmit an application since Council had approved earlier in the meeting companion pieces to the same properties for annexation into the City of Shelbyville. Councilman Bobby Turnbow seconded. (The Planning Commission gave a favorable recommendation to City Council for annexation of these two particular pieces of property.)

All other items on the City Council agenda for the Jan. 11 meeting were approved as read. All Council members were present.
