SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (9-0, 3-0) and Eaglettes (8-1, 3-0) took down Lincoln County for each team’s third district win of the season, 4-3 and 6-1, respectively.
The Eaglettes got started early, winning both doubles points, 8-4 and 8-6, thanks to the duos of Lizzy Smith with Sophie Ray and Abby Thaxton with Addie Berry, respectively. The Lady Falcons duos of Kate Pierce with Chloe Gibson and Ella Morris with Maelee Robertson both put up a fight, but in the end Ray and Smith pulled away.
In the singles’ matches, the Eaglettes won all but one. On Court One, Smith took down Pierce with relative ease, 8-2. Court Two saw the only Eaglettes’ loss with Addie Berry falling to Chloe Gibson, 8-1. On Court Three, Sophie Ray ran away from Maelee Robertson, 8-2, while Elesa Aldis outlasted Aubree Howell on Court Five, 8-4, to clinch the win for Shelbyville. Abby Thaxton’s match on Court Five against Ella Morris ended with Thaxton ahead, 7-4.
On the boys side, the strong duo of Henry Stone and Tucker Johnson actually lost a doubles point to the Falcons’ Jackson Porter and Talan McMeen in a hotly contested battle, 8-6. The second doubles duo of Justin Spence and Tanner Johnson ensured that Shelbyville broke even, defeating Noah Gibson and Auldon Watt, 8-5. Entering the singles matches tied 1-1, Shelbyville utilized their depth to wear down Lincoln County. On Court One, Porter outlasted Stone in a tiebreaker, 9-7, to give Lincoln County their second point. On Court Two, Justin Spence took care of McMeen, 8-3, to give Shelbyville their second point while on Court Three, Johnson also won his match, 8-3, against Noah Gibson, to give the hosts a 3-2 lead.
On Court Four, Tanner Johnson found a way to pull out an 8-6 win against Auldon Watt to secure the Shelbyville team win, 4-3, despite Carter Woodson’s loss to Aaryan Patel on Court Five that allowed the Falcons to even things up initially.
It was an impressive afternoon of tennis from the Golden Eagles, utilizing their depth to simply outlast the visiting Falcons to maintain their undefeated record. Both the Eaglettes and Eagles improved to 3-0 in district play.
