BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After blowing out Glencliff, 95-14, on Friday night to pick up their first win, the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (1-2) struggled to generate any offensive rhythm in a 53-32 loss to Green Hill (5-0) on Tuesday afternoon at the ‘Coaches Vs Cancer’ competition at Ravenwood.
KT Tolbert led the Lady Hawks with a game-high 21 points while Willa Heilman joined her teammate in double-figures with 10 points.
For Shelbyville, Dara Frazier scored eight second-half points to lead the Eaglettes. Janiya Leslie and Yasmine McFarland each chipped in with seven points apiece. The Eaglettes struggled mightily at the free throw line, finishing just 5/15 as a team at the charity stripe.
To start, the Lady Hawks jumped out to an early 10-point lead, 15-5, at the end of the first quarter. Jada Berry and McFarland were the only Eaglettes that found a way to generate a bucket while Tolbert led Green Hill with six points in the opening period.
Green Hill also outscored Shelbyville, 16-10, in the second quarter with Holman and Tolbert combining for 11 points to counter the three-pointer and two-point field goal that both McFarland and Leslie accounted for, sending the Eaglettes into the halftime locker room trailing, 31-15.
In the third quarter, Green Hill connected on a trio of threes to keep the Eaglettes at arm’s length, barely outscoring Shelbyville, 13-12, in the period to take a 44-27 lead heading into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Hawks held Shelbyville to just five points despite the Eaglettes totaling 11 free throw attempts. However, Shelbyville went just 3/11 at the line in the period, allowing Green Hill to pull away for the 21-point victory.
Shelbyville is scheduled to face off against Centennial before taking on Hillsboro in the Lady Eagles Turkey Shootout at Ezell-Harding in Antioch on Friday night.
