McMINNVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (7-18-0-7) scored just two points in the second quarter at Warren County (13-11, 3-5) on Tuesday night, leading to a 53-45 loss in the second-to-last District 6-4A game of the regular season.
After taking the Pioneerettes to overtime in a 49-45 loss back on Jan. 23, the Eaglettes were unable to match the hosts’ scoring prowess. Brynlee Chisom led all scorers with a game-high 18 points while Trinity Reynolds finished 16 points for Warren County.
For Shelbyville, Jada Berry scored a team-high 13 points while Dara Frazier and Janiya Leslie chipped in with 10 points apiece, but the Pioneerettes shot 16 more free throws, 30-16, and made seven more from the line in the eight point win.
Early on, the two teams were basically even at the end of the first quarter with Warren County taking a slim 15-13 lead heading into the second. Berry scored eight of her 13 in the opening period to keep the Eaglettes close while Leslie knocked down her only triple of the night.
However, the Pioneerettes held Shelbyville to zero-made field goals in the second stanza, outscoring the Eaglettes, 11-2, to take a 26-15 lead going into the halftime break. Reynolds led all scorers in the period with six points.
Coming out for the second half, both teams found their offensive groove almost immediately, but Warren County was able to edge out the Eaglettes, 19-17, in the third quarter to take a 43-32 lead heading into the final frame. Yasmine McFarland scored four of her five points in the third while Berry added four points, but Chisam scored seven for Warren County to lead the hosts.
In the fourth quarter, the Pioneerettes went 8-of-14 at the charity stripe, connecting on just enough free throws to hold on off the late rally attempt from the Eaglettes.
The Eaglettes fall to 7-18 overall. Shelbyville Central travels to Coffee County on Friday night to close out district play with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m.
