SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (5-12, 0-3) scored just 24 points in Friday’s 55-24 district loss against Lincoln County (13-4, 1-1).
Janiya Leslie tied for a game-high 13 points for the Eaglettes while Jada Berry was held to just two points.
Lincoln County’s Abby Curtis matched Leslie’s output with 13 points of her own, all in the first three quarters. Alivia Phelps connected on four three-pointers and finished with 12 points, and Reagan Bragg added nine points for the Lady Falcons.
Early on, both teams struggled to find offense with Lincoln County taking an 8-2 lead at the end of the opening quarter. Berry scored her only basket of the night in the first for Shelbyville. In the second period, Phelps nailed a couple of threes, Bragg hit a three, and the Lady Falcons took a commanding 24-4 lead heading into the halftime locker room. Yasmine McFarland hit a pair of free throws for the Eaglettes’ only points in the period.
Coming out for the second half, Leslie led the Eaglettes with six points, but Lincoln County outscored Shelbyville, 25-11, in the third quarter to take a 49-15 lead heading into the final frame. Phelps and Mattie Graham each nailed a pair of three-pointers while Curtis added six points of her own in the third.
In the fourth quarter, Leslie scored seven of the Eaglettes’ nine points while the Lady Falcons scored just six, but Lincoln County still took home the 55-24 road win.
The Eaglettes fall to 5-13 overall after Saturday’s four-point loss to non-district foe Westmoreland. Shelbyville travels to Summit for a non-district contest on Tuesday night with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m.
