SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (5-6) ran away from the Siegel Stars (4-7), 42-26, on Monday night at the Eagles’ Nest.
The Eaglettes jumped out to an early 19-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, forcing 24 Siegel turnovers in total. Janiya Leslie connected on Shelbyville’s lone three-pointer of the night in the opening period, leading the way with five of her nine points total coming in just the first eight minutes.
Yasmine McFarland led the way with a game-high 11 points, Leslie scored nine points, Sequoyah Young added eight points, and Jada Berry chipped in with seven points. Shelbyville finished 8/17 at the free throw line as a team.
Meanwhile, for the Stars, Zantriee Alexander scored a team-high six points as the Eaglettes’ defense was able to disrupt almost every action Siegel wanted to run. The visitors also finished 4/12 from the foul line.
In the second quarter, Siegel managed to connect on a trio of three pointers to marginally trim the halftime lead to 15 points, 29-14, after outscoring Shelbyville, 12-10, in the period.
Coming out of the halftime locker room, the Eaglettes began to have some trouble generating offense, scoring just six points in the third quarter. Fortunately for the hosts, their defense held Siegel to just seven points, preserving a 35-21 lead heading into the final frame.
In the fourth, Shelbyville outscored the Stars, 7-5, to take home the 16-point win, 42-26.
Shelbyville improves to 5-6 overall. The Eaglettes have a quick turnaround, traveling to Tullahoma for the ‘Battle of Highway 41-A’ on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. to conclude the back-to-back.
