FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (6-17, 0-6) nearly picked up their first win in District 6-4A play, but ultimately came up just short against Lincoln County (16-5, 4-1) on Tuesday, 49-46.
Jada Berry and Janiya Leslie did most of the damage for Shelbyville through the first three quarters, before Sandrea Lopez scored all seven of her points in the fourth quarter. Berry finished with a team-high 14 points while Leslie added 12 points with three triples.
For the Lady Falcons, Grasen Tipps led all scorers with a game-high 16 points while Reagan Bragg chipped in with 12 points of her own. Lincoln County connected on seven threes as a team while the Eaglettes hit on just four for the game.
Early on, the fans in attendance were treated to somewhat of a first-quarter shootout with the home side nailing three threes while Leslie fought back with eight points of her own on a pair of treys. Berry added five points in the frame.
In the second quarter, the Lady Falcons turned up the heat defensively, outscoring the Eaglettes, 10-6, to send Lincoln County into the halftime locker room with a 25-20 lead.
Coming out for the second half, the Lady Falcons found their way to the free throw line early and often, finishing 9-of-12 from the stripe in the third period. Abby Curtis scored all seven of her points on the night in the third alone. Meanwhile, Berry led Shelbyville with five points as Leslie added four on a three-pointer and a free throw, but the hosts held a 41-33 lead entering the final frame.
In the fourth, Shelbyville managed to force a few turnovers, holding the Lady Falcons to just eight points in the quarter. Despite Lopez’s seven-point period, the Eaglettes could not complete the comeback, coming up three points short against the district leaders on the road.
Lincoln County improves to 16-5 overall.
The Eaglettes fall to 6-17 overall and remain winless in district play. Shelbyville travels to Warren County on Friday night with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m.
