MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (0-1) trailed by just three runs entering the bottom of the sixth inning on Tuesday, but the Oakland Lady Patriots (1-0) responded with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to complete the late run-rule victory, 14-4.
Tenley West got the start in the circle for Shelbyville Central, going 4.0 innings and giving up six runs with three earned with eight hits and two walks on 72 pitches. Maci Lovvorn came on in relief to start the fifth, and after giving up just one run in the fifth inning, the Lady Patriots got to her in the sixth for four earned runs on three walks, one strikeout, and one hit on 41 pitches. Alissa Robb came in to try and get three outs, but Oakland managed to slap two hits together to drive home the final three unearned runs and trigger the run-rule.
For the Lady Patriots, Jade Revoir started in the circle, lasting 3.0 innings and giving up just one earned run on five hits and three strikeouts while throwing 39 pitches. She was pulled for Amare Moore to start the fourth inning, and Moore finished out the game for Oakland, giving up three earned runs on four hits while striking out four batters on 46 pitches.
For Shelbyville, Janiya Leslie led off and went 2-of-3 at the plate with a double, Allaiana Rippy batted 1-of-3 with one RBI, Jeheili Palacios finished 2-of-3, and Sequoyah Young went 2-of-3 with two RBIs and a home run. Sydney Moore batted 1-of-3, and Laila Lauderdale finished 1-of-3 at the plate as well. The Eaglettes totaled nine hits at the plate, but committed a costly six errors in the field. Shelbyville scored one run in the third inning, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth.
Oakland was led by Moore’s 2-of-5 performance with two RBIs and a double in the batter’s box, as well as Emma Scott batting 3-of-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs. In all, the Lady Patriots tallied 11 hits as a team and did not commit an error in the field. The Lady Patriots scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and then seven in the sixth.
Shelbyville Central falls to 0-1 overall in Year 1 of the Kailey Snell era. The Eaglettes travel to Rockvale on Friday with first-pitch set for 5:30 p.m.
