SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (14-9, 6-4) scored in double digits in each of the first three quarters to take down the Columbia Central Lady Lions (5-18) (1-9) on Senior night inside of Rick Insell Gymnasium on Thursday, 52-24.

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (14-9, 6-4) scored in double digits in each of the first three quarters to take down the Columbia Central Lady Lions (5-18) (1-9) on Senior night inside of Rick Insell Gymnasium on Thursday, 52-24. The Lady Lions were held to single digit scoring each quarter and committed a total of 28 turnovers at the final buzzer.
Janiya Leslie tagged a long three from the side of the key for three of her five points for the Eaglettes in the first quarter and teammate Jada Berry dropped in two buckets of her own to account for nine of the 12 that Shelbyville collected that period. They held the Lady Lions to only nine points in the first with five of those being added by Natasia Barner in the final two minutes of the period. Shelbyville ended the first quarter with a three-point lead, 12-9, and never relinquished it the rest of the game.
With a run of 11 points in the first five minutes of the second quarter, the Eaglettes extended their lead to 14, 23-9, without allowing their opponent to score a single basket. Leslie knocked in two more threes in the quarter for six of her total nine points for the period. Columbia Central hit one bucket and a foul shot to collect their only three points in the quarter, By the halftime buzzer Shelbyville had added 17 points to their total score and were now leading 29-12.
Lanaya Young started the second long scoring spree of 16 for the Eaglettes beginning at 3:33 left in the third quarter until the buzzer sounded with a three from the top of the key for three of her six points in the period. Leslie added eight more for Shelbyville. The Eaglettes now had a commanding lead of 35 points, pulling ahead 52-17 and did not score in the fourth quarter.The Lady Lions collected five more points in the quarter, but it was not enough to make a run for the win.
Although the Eaglettes did not score any fourth quarter points they held Columbia Central to only seven more themselves. Barner ended as high scorer for the Lady Lions with eight points adding two of these in the last term. Eagelette Wilson ended her game with eight tallies and Leslie had a game high 22 including three threes.
The Shelbyville Eaglettes will begin the District 9-AAAA Tournament by playing against Columbia Monday Feb 17th at 6:00 pm in Shelbyville.
