Eaglettes’ Season Comes to a Close at Franklin in Region 5-AAA Semifinal

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – After returning to the Region Tournament for the first time in four years, the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (11-5-1, 4-1-1) saw their season ended at the Franklin Lady Admirals (17-1-1), 2-0, in the Region 5-AAA Semifinal on Tuesday night.

Franklin scored a pair of first-half goals to secure their place in the Region 5-AAA Championship against Summit after the Spartans took down Franklin County 3-2 in the other semifinal.

“Starting out as the Head Coach and making it as far as we did with these seniors when they were freshmen [in 2022] – who were critical players then for us – made this run very special to me,” said Eaglettes Head Coach Casey Curry. “I hate that we didn’t get this game, but you’re just playing against a whole different level up here. The first time we scrimmaged earlier this year, they beat us 4-0. It’s just something for us to learn from and push towards because we have the talent, and because we are so young, we have so much to grow towards. It was a pretty tough loss, but I‘m proud of our girls. They fought until the end.”

The District 9-AAA runners-up generated a couple of half-chances in the second half, but overall were mostly unable to find any rhythm in attack against a physical Lady Admirals side. Josie Johnson, a freshman forward for Franklin, opened the scoring in the 13th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Then, in the 28th minute, junior Aubrey Gates doubled Franklin’s lead to 2-0, an advantage that the Eaglettes were ultimately unable to overcome.

“This team had a lot of fight in them that I love, and a lot of good energy and chemistry,” Curry said about her squad postgame. “I think as they grow and build that, it’s going to be pretty fun to watch over the next few years. We lose four starters [Mary Grace Marshall, Yasmine McFarland, Britzel Hayiten, and Karen Camarillo] but after that we have one soon-to-be senior who starts and then all freshmen and sophomores. We have a lot of potential in the years to come.”

Shelbyville’s season comes to a close at 11-5-1 (4-1-1) as the 2025 District 9-AAA Runners-Up.
