CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Eaglettes (0-1) struggled to find any consistent offense in Tuesday’s season-opener at the Cleveland Blue Raiders (1-0), falling 69-26.
Jada Berry led the Eaglettes with nine points on the night while Yazmine McFarland chipped in with a pair of three pointers.
Meanwhile, Cleveland finished with five players in double-figures, led by Laney Copeland’s game-high 13 points. Addy Gravelle and Emily Patterson each scored 12 points, Ariyah Huffman added 11 points, and Ilianis Rodriguez chipped in with 10 points of her own, including eight in the first quarter alone.
Cleveland took a 17-11 lead after the opening period, but that lead quickly ballooned to 27 points by halftime. The Blue Raiders held the Eaglettes scoreless in the second quarter, outsourcing the visitors 21-0 to take a 38-11 lead into the halftime locker room.
Cleveland kept up the pressure, growing the lead to 55-20 at the end of the third quarter before coasting to a 69-26 win.
Cleveland improves to 1-0 and will travel to Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga on Friday night.
Shelbyville Central falls to 0-1, but look to bounce back at Siegel on Thursday night, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 and AM 1580 starting at 5:45 p.m.
