Eaglettes Take Down Blackman With Three First Half Goals

Posted

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (5-2-0) scored three goals in the first 20 minutes against the Blackman Blaze (2-3-0) to secure a 3-0 win at home on Tuesday.

Freshman forward Kyler Doak, who is one of three freshmen starting and one of seven starting underclassmen, tallied a brace, and she opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute. Doak pounced on an errant touch by Remeniece Henning in Blackman’s backline before dribbling past the keeper, Isabel Kinsman, to pass the ball into the net and put Shelbyville ahead 1-0.

“They [underclassmen] are still growing their chemistry, and they bring a lot of good energy,” said Eaglettes’ head coach Casey Curry, “A lot of the girls knew each other from middle school, but we’re still working on building up that chemistry in attack.”

Doak had another shot attempt saved three minutes later. Then, in the 8th minute, Doak netted her second goal of the night after her shot went up and over Kinsman in goal from the right side of the box to double the Eaglettes’ lead to 2-0.

In the 20th minute, sophomore Olivia Blackburn dribbled down the right flank, cutting inside onto her left foot and finding the back of the net at the far post in a one-on-one situation with Kinsman to extend Shelbyville’s lead to 3-0 going into the halftime break.

In the second half, Malia Lawrence nearly got on the board for the Blaze, but a strong right-hand save by Yas McFarland preserved the clean sheet.

“I’m really proud of them because they’re putting in what we’re asking,” said Curry, “We’ve played a lot of tough teams to start the season, so the scores don’t always reflect accurately on how they played. Even so, there is still a lot we still have to work on.”

Shelbyville controlled much of the game, and probably could have scored three more goals throughout the rest of the game. The one and two-touch passing gave Blackman problems, and the Eaglettes’ counterpressing sped the Blaze up all night long.

Shelbyville begins district play with a trip to Columbia Central on Thursday night.
