Golden Eagles Close Regular Season With Run-Rule Win In 'Battle of Highway 41-A'

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (26-8, 7-3) plated seven runs in the sixth inning to trigger the run-rule against Tullahoma (24-9, 9-1), 14-3, on Monday night to close another chapeter in the 'Battle of Highway 41-A' rivalry. 

For Shelbyville, Stephen Bobo got the start, working through a scoreless first inning giving up one hit and walking one batter with two strikeouts. William Bobo came on to throw the second and third innings, giving up two earned runs on two hits and one walk with one strikeout. Michael Estrada threw the fourth and fifth innings, giving up one earned run on three hits with one strikeout before Caden Duggin recorded the final three outs in the sixth while giving up just one base hit. 

Lukas Taylor-Rodriguez got the start for Tullahoma, throwing the first 1.1 innings and giving up four earned runs on two hits and four walks to go with one strikeout on 43 pitches. Grayson Waller came on in relief, putting in 2.2 shutout innings of work with four strikeouts while giving up three hits on 37 pitches. Mason Bratcher came out to start the fifth inning, giving up three unearned runs on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts on 34 pitches. Baylan Tuten came on in the sixth, recording just one out and giving up three earned runs while walking a batter before Ben Quick was called in from the bullpen, failing to make it through the sixth inning while giving up four earned runs on two hits and one walk as part of a seven-run sixth inning for the Golden Eagles.

Shelbyville opened the scoring in the first two innings, plating a pair of runs in both the first and second inning of the night. Tullahoma cut the lead in half in the top of the third before adding another run in the top of the fifth.

The Golden Eagles’ offense scored three runs in the home half to grow the lead to 7-3, and then ran riot in the bottom of the sixth with seven runs to walk off the Wildcats via the run-rule.

William Bobo went 1-4 at the plate with a double, three RBIs, and a walk. Caden Duggin went 2-2 with a double and a walk, Stephen Bobo finished 1-3 with a walk, and Brody Lovvorn went 1-2 with a double and three RBIs. Caden Peacock went 1-3 with a double, Palmer Edwards went hitless but drove in one run via a walk, and Reager Edwards finished 1-2 with an RBI, two walks, and three runs scored. Brody Thomas went 1-3 with two RBIs and a walk, and Michael Estrada finished 0-2 with a walk and two runs scored. 

Andrew Fulmer led Tullahoma at the plate, finishing 3-3  with the Wildcats’ lone extra-base hit and one RBI.

Shelbyville begins District 9-AAAA Tournament play at home on Thursday, May 1, against the winner between Columbia Central and Coffee County with first-pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
