DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (22-8, 5-3) went 1-3 over the weekend with two of the losses coming by just a single run against Henry County (17-9, 6-1), 4-3, and Dickson County (10-16, 4-1), 3-2. Shelbyville took down Sycamore (13-9), 7-5, after falling to Creekwood (21-6), 7-5.

Golden Eagles Drop Three of Four in Weekend Stretch

DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (22-8, 5-3) went 1-3 over the weekend with two of the losses coming by just a single run against Henry County (17-9, 6-1), 4-3, and Dickson County (10-16, 4-1), 3-2. Shelbyville took down Sycamore (13-9), 7-5, after falling to Creekwood (21-6), 7-5. 

In the first game against Henry County on Friday night, the Patriots used a three-run first inning and solid relief pitching from Jeremiah Townsend to hold off the Golden Eagles, 4-3. 

Brody Lovvorn got the start and threw 5.2 innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters on 98 pitches. Ashton Whorley came on to record the final out on a three-pitch strikeout. 

For Henry County, Turner McSwain started on the mound, throwing 4.0 innings and giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out seven batters on 77 pitches. Townsend came on to start the fifth inning with a one-run lead, and he recorded the final nine outs while giving up just five hits and one walk with three strikeouts. 

In all, Shelbyville out-hit the Patriots, 10-6, but left 10 runners on base. William Bobo, Caden Duggin, and Reager Edwards all tallied two singles apiece. 

The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead before Henry County scored three runs in the home half, aided by fielding errors. Shelbyville got a run back in the top of the third inning before the Patriots responded with a run of their own. The Golden Eagles then scored their third and final run of the game in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3, but were unable to plate the tying run in the final three innings. 

In the second game of the doubleheader on Friday, Shelbyville suffered another low-scoring loss, this time to the Creekwood Red Hawks, 3-1. 

Michael Estrada got the start for the Golden Eagles, throwing 4.2 innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits and four walks to go along with eight strikeouts on 103 pitches. Eli Laye came on in relief, pitching the final 1.1 innings and giving up one earned run on one hit and three walks while striking out one batter on 29 pitches. 

Stephen Bobo recorded two of the four total hits for Shelbyville in the game on a pair of singles. Brody Lovvorn and Palmer Edwards also each slapped a single. 

Creekwood’s starter threw a complete game, giving up just four hits and one earned run with a walk on four strikeouts on just 76 pitches.

In the first game on Saturday, Shelbyville took down the Sycamore War Eagles, 7-5, for its first win of the weekend. 

Ashton Whorley started on the mound, throwing a complete 6.0 innings and giving up five runs, two earned, on nine hits and one walk to go with five strikeouts on 89 pitches. 

For Sycamore, Gage Walker threw the complete 6.0 innings, giving up seven runs, five earned, on nine hits and two walks while striking out two batters on 97 pitches. 

Shelbyville opened with a pair of runs in the top of the first before Sycamore responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2. The Golden Eagles plated two more in the top of the third, Sycamore responded with a run of its own to trim the lead to 4-3, and then Shelbyville scored one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a four-run lead, 7-3. Sycamore got two runs back in the home half, but were unable to get any closer before the time limit set in.

William Bobo went 2-4 at the plate with a triple, Stephen Bobo finished 2-3 with a double and two RBIs with a walk, and Brody Lovvorn went 1-3 with a pair of RBIs of his own. 

In the second game of the Saturday doubleheader, Dickson County found a way to shut down the potent Golden Eagles’ offense for the majority of the game in a 3-2 win. 

For the Cougars, Alex Potter threw a complete game, giving up just two earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out eight batters on 99 pitches. 

Caden Duggin started for Shelbyville, throwing 5.0 innings and giving up three runs, one earned, on nine hits on 62 pitches. Blake Bone came on in relief, getting the final three outs on 13 pitches and one hit. 

Shelbyville opened the scoring in the top of the third, plating a run before Dickson County responded to tie the game at 1-1. The Cougars scored two more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. The Golden Eagles threatened in the top of the seventh, cutting the lead in half, but were ultimately unable to bring home the tying run, falling 3-2. 

Palmer Edwards led Shelbyville with two hits, finishing 2-3 with a double while Caden Duggin and Blake Bone each drove home a run on a base hit.

Shelbyville hosts Spring Hill on Monday in game one of the final District 9-AAAA regular season series with first-pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
