MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In the program’s first-ever TSSAA State Tournament game, the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (31-10, 5-3) struggled to slow down the No. 4 ranked Ravenwood Raptors (32-9, 9-3), falling 13-2 after six innings on Tuesday afternoon at Siegel.

Kaleb Maillet got the start for the Golden Eagles, and he managed to hold the Raptors scoreless in three of the first four innings. However, a grand slam that punctuated a six-run fifth finally knocked Maillet from the game, ending his afternoon with 4.2 innings pitched, 10 runs on 11 hits and one walk with three strikeouts on 77 pitches.

Ashton Whorley came on in relief for the final out of the inning, giving up one hit on 13 pitches to do so. Cameron Burke got the first two outs in the sixth with one coming via strikeout, but the Raptors would tag the Golden Eagles’ freshman for three earned runs on three hits. Elijah Westbrooks would record the final out of the inning via strikeout.

Ravenwood’s Michael Holt capped off a four-run second inning with a three-run home run to take a 4-0 lead, but the Golden Eagles would find a way to trim the lead in half one inning later. In the bottom of the third, Shelbyville Central used small ball to load the bases for Caden Peacock. Peacock then delivered a bases-loaded 2-RBI single to draw within two runs, 4-2, but Shelbyville Central was unable to tack on any more runs, and the threat came to a close.

After the Raptors’ six-spot in the fifth, they would tack on three more in the top of the sixth to reach run-rule territory. Ravenwood would finish the day with 16 hits and 13 runs while Shelbyville Central managed just seven hits and two runs.

At the plate for Shelbyville Central, Stephen Bobo led off going 2-for-3, Blake Bone went 1-for-3, and Peacock finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Burke was 1-for-1, and Miles McCullough finished 2-for-2 with a double.

Shelbyville Central is due for a quick turnaround on Wednesday morning. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to take on Oak Ridge at 10:00 a.m. in an elimination game at Siegel High School.
