SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (14-8, 3-0) managed to remain unbeaten in District 6-AAAA play with a hard-fought win, 80-75, over the Lincoln County Falcons on Friday night.
Shelbyville survived a game-high 31-point outing from the Falcons’ Reese Smith behind a team effort on the offensive end. Jevon Lee scored a team-high 19 points, Jordan Taylor nailed three triples and finished with 16 points, Tommie Cannon added 12 points, Jack Conditt chipped in with 10 points, and Tae’Shawn Shelton scored all nine of his points in the second half. Shelbyville was able to tread water from behind the arc, hitting six total threes to the Falcons’ seven.
For Lincoln County, Smith obviously led the way with 31, but Maddox Franklin added 16 points on three threes as well as Diesen Ogle chipping in with 10 points.
Early on, it looked like Shelbyville was going to run away with an easy home win as the Golden Eagles jumped out to 19-12 lead at the end of the opening period of play. Taylor scored eight points in the quarter, including a pair of three-pointers, while Lee led the way with nine points for a balanced inside-out scoring combination.
In the second quarter, Shelbyville outscored the Falcons, 20-19, to take a 39-31 lead heading into the halftime locker room. Cannon led six different Golden Eagle scorers with five points in the period while Smith scored 13 of his team’s 19 points in the second.
Coming out for the second half, Lincoln County outscored the hosts, 20-16, to trim the lead to 55-51 heading into the final frame. Franklin led the visitors with seven points in the third quarter while Lee took over once again, leading all scorers with eight points in the period.
Finally, in the fourth quarter, Shelbyville was able to hit enough free throws to hold off a furious rally by the visitors, outscoring Lincoln County, 25-24, to reach the final score of 80-75. Taylor hit a big three, Shelton scored six of his nine points in the fourth, and Tommie Cannon hit his only three of the night to help keep his team in front.
The Golden Eagles improve to 14-8 overall. Shelbyville travels to Summit on Tuesday night in a non-district contest before returning home against district foe Warren County on Friday.
