LEWISBURG, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (0-2) gave up 20 points in the fourth quarter at Marshall County (1-1) in a 30-21 loss on Friday night in a non-region contest.

The Golden Eagles took a 21-17 lead with just under four minutes left to play in the fourth quarter after Stephen Bobo connected with Jackson Themm from seven yards out, but Tyler Thompson, who finished 13/21 for 151 yards and 1 TD with 1 INT, responded to put the Tigers up for good on a 2-yard TD run with less than a minute to go.

Shelbyville attempted to find a way to reach the end zone, but a last-second Stephen Bobo heave was picked off and returned for a touchdown to inflate the final score to 30-21.

To open the game, the Tigers punched first thanks to an explosive pass play when Thompson connected with Kel Hightower for a 43-yard TD with 8:09 to play in the first quarter to go up 7-0.

Neither offense would score again until the Golden Eagles tied the game up after Bobo found Xzayvier Jordan for an incredible 18-yard TD with 5:43 left in the first half.

The Tigers responded with a nearly three-minute drive to get into field goal range where Rodner Rogel connected from 25 yards out to put the hosts up 10-7 going into the halftime locker room.

Shelbyville’s defense continued its strong night against an explosive Tigers’ offense by putting up  a zero in the third quarter, allowing Stephen Bobo to orchestrate a masterful 80-yard touchdown drive that culminated in a 9-yard TD run on fourth-and-goal with 4:37 left in the period. This put the Golden Eagles up 13-10 following a failed two-point conversion.

Marshall County finally found the end zone for the second time when Aidan Bryant took the handoff and sprinted across the goal line from 13 yards out, putting the Tigers back in front, 17-13.

Shelbyville responded with another touchdown drive that ended with Themm’s reception in the end zone before Marshall County ultimately came away with the game-winning drive.

Marshall County totaled 137 yards on the ground with 2 TDs on 27 attempts, and defensively, they came away with a pair of interceptions to win the turnover battle.

The Tigers improve to 1-1 and will host Westview on Friday night.

Shelbyville Central falls to 0-2 and will begin region play with a trip to Franklin on Friday night, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 and AM 1580 starting at 6:45 p.m.
