McMINNVILLE, Tenn. – After blowing out the Pioneers on Jan. 23 by 21 points, the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (17-11, 4-3) were upset at Warren County (16-8, 4-4), 48-45, on Tuesday night.

Shelbyville Central, who started out district play a perfect 4-0, have now been held under 52 points in their last three district outings, culminating in a bad loss to the Pioneers on Tuesday. Not a single Golden Eagle scored in double-figures, and the visitors were held to just 17 points in the second half as a team.

Meanwhile, Warren County’s Devin Fish scored a game-high 17 points, Deashawn Adams added 13 points, and Keyton Rena chipped in with 10 points on the night.

The Golden Eagles actually jumped out to an early lead, 13-10, by the end of the opening period of play. Jasiah Berry scored four points in the first to lead Shelbyville. In the second, the visitors held the Pioneers to just seven points in the period, and it looked to be a reenactment of the first game with Shelbyville heading into the halftime locker room with a 29-17 lead.

However, the Golden Eagles’ defense began to leak in the third quarter, and Fish took advantage. Fish scored 11 of his 17 points in the third quarter, and the Pioneers drew level at 38 by the end of the period after outscoring Shelbyville, 21-9.

The Golden Eagles managed just seven points in the final frame, and despite Fish splitting two pairs of free throws down the stretch, Shelbyville was unable to take advantage on the offensive end, falling by three, 48-45.

The Golden Eagles fall to 17-11 overall. Shelbyville wraps up district play on Friday at Coffee County with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
