DUNLAP, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (1-0) took down Sequatchie County (0-1) in a low-scoring affair, 2-0 after six innings, on Monday night.
Stephen Bobo was dominant on the mound for the Golden Eagles, pitching 6.0 innings of shutout ball while giving up two hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts on 84 pitches.
Tucker Lee got the start for Sequatchie County, lasting 4.0 innings and giving up two earned runs on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts on 69 pitches.
Shelbyville Central scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning. Miles McCullough led off the game by drawing a walk, Elijah Westbrooks worked a one-out walk, and then Caden Peacock delivered the big hit with a 2-RBI double to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Neither team would score again until the seventh inning, but the game was called due to field conditions before the bottom of the seventh could complete, resulting in the 2-0 win for the visitors.
Despite not getting a hit the first time through, Bobo finished 3-of-4 at the plate with three singles. Hayden Davis went 1-for-3 in the cleanup spot, Peacock finished 1-of-4 with 2 RBIs and a double – the only extra-base hit of the game – and Blake Bone went 1-of-3.
For Sequatchie County, Dillon Frizzell went 1-of-3 and Hank Vandeburg finished 1-of-2.
Shelbyville Central is scheduled to travel to Warren County on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. and take on DeKalb County, weather permitting.
