Golden Eagles Pull Away in Fourth Quarter Against the Falcons to Pick Up Second District Win of the Season

Shelbyville, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (7-12, 2-1) picked up a big District 9-AAAA win inside of Rick Insell Gymnasium against the visiting Lincoln County Falcons (6-11, 2-1), 66-48, to hand Lincoln County their first district loss of the season.

Jordan Taylor had his breakout performance of the season in the second half, scoring 15 of his 21 points in the final two quarters, while Jevon Lee led the way with a game-high 22 points, including 16 in the second half. Tae’Shawn Shelton also reached double-figures with 13 points.

For Lincoln County, Maddox Franklin scored a team-high 18 points. Reese Smith was the only other Falcon to reach double-digit points with 13.

To start, Shelbyville came out of the gates locked in defensively, taking an 18-9 lead after the opening period. Franklin scored seven of the nine points for the Falcons while five different Golden Eagles scored for Shelbyville.

In the second quarter, the roles seemed to reverse. Lincoln County stepped up the defensive pressure, holding Shelbyville to just seven points in the period while the Falcons scored 14 of their own. At halftime, the Golden Eagles clung to a two-point lead, 25-23.

Coming out of the halftime locker room, Lincoln County stayed within striking distance, outscoring Shelbyville by one point, 14-13, to get within one point of the Golden Eagles heading into the final frame, 38-37.

However, in the fourth quarter, the floodgates opened for the hosts. Lee scored nine points, Taylor led the way with 11 points, and the Golden Eagles outscored the Falcons as a team, 28-11, to pull away and win by 18, 66-48.

Lincoln County falls to 6-11 (2-1).

Shelbyville Central improves to 7-12 (2-1) and will host Spring Hill on Friday night, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 starting at 5:45 p.m.
