SPRING HILL, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (10-3-1, 8-0-1) put seven goals past a winless Spring Hill side on Tuesday night to remain unbeaten in District 9-AAA play.
Yaden Niño opened the scoring after the opening minutes by beating his defender with a nice piece of skill before slotting the ball into the back of the net to put Shelbyville ahead, 1-0. Niño had a hand in the second goal a few minutes later as well, providing the assist to Emmanual Leyva to double the lead to 2-0.
Niño would net his brace and the Golden Eagles’ third goal moments later after Jonathan Betzelberger got to the end line before pulling the ball back into the box for the easy finish. Shelbyville’s fourth goal came from Arael Sanchez on a corner from a Leyva delivery to increase the lead to 4-0.
In the second half, Leyva scored three goals, netting his hat trick plus another one on assists from David Castillo, Jonathan Betzelberger, and Rodrigo Hernández.
Playing on a turf field, the Golden Eagles were able to focus on the speed and tempo of their passing moves, allowing them to play the ball back into the box on the ground from the wings.
“I am happy that we are starting to really respond to the more detailed coaching and playing the type of soccer that we love to watch,” SCHS head coach Chris Fritz said, “We have a very talented pool of seniors who are selfless and they have really cemented the idea of what a SCHS soccer player should act , think, and be like in the future.
Shelbyville then took down Lincoln County, 9-1, on Thursday night, and will host Warren County with a chance to clinch first place for the District 9-AAA Tournament on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
