SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (4-5, 3-2) wrapped up its final non-region regular season contest with a 42-31 win over Hendersonville (4-4, 2-1) on Thursday night.

Sophomore Torrion Mathis ran for a career-high 183 yards with three touchdowns on just nine carries for the Golden Eagles, highlighted by a long 77-yard scamper at the start of the second half. Stephen Bobo tacked on 78 yards with one touchdown on just five attempts himself. Star senior Robert Bailey added 103 yards rushing himself as well as another touchdown. In total, the Golden Eagles imposed their will on the ground against the Commandos, running for 402 yards on 39 attempts as a team.

Bailey opened the scoring with 5:50 left in the first quarter on Shelbyville’s opening drive, finding the end zone on a 14-yard scamper to put the Golden Eagles on top, 7-0.

On the Commandos’ next possession, Shelbyville’s Ellington Scott recovered a fumble by Tate Rumney to set the Golden Eagles up near the red zone for their second drive.

Two plays later, Stephen Bobo doubled Shelbyville’s lead with a wizard-like 26-yard touchdown run to put the Golden Eagles up 14-0 with 4:52 remaining in the opening period.

Shelbyville Central kept its foot on the gas pedal, growing its lead to 21-0 at the end of the first half. Torrion Mathis punched it in from two yards out for his first score of the game with 50 seconds remaining in the quarter to put the Golden Eagles up 21-0.

To open the second half, Mathis picked up a 77-yard run to put Shelbyville into the red zone, and eventually Mathis punched it in from a yard out to grow the lead to 28-0 with just over nine minutes left in the third quarter.

From that point on, the result was a mere formality despite the eventual final score. Torrion Mathis scored his third touchdown of the night before Treyvion Mathis scored his first touchdown of the season on the ground.

Hendersonville piled up 31 points to close out the night, but never truly threatened the Golden Eagles in the second half.

Shelbyville looks forward to a win-and-in situation to close out the regular season on Thursday, October 30th, with a Senior Night matchup in region play against Coffee County, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 and AM 1580 at 6:45 p.m.
