Helen Gaines Alexander Sexton

On April 27, 2023, Helen Gaines Alexander Sexton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed into the waiting arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born in Shelbyville, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, A.B. Alexander, Jr. and Cary Eakin Alexander.

Helen is survived by her husband Jimmy, three children, son Jay Sexton (Caren), daughter Cary Frances Parron (Matt) and daughter Cynthia Gaines Scheel (Craig); eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Helen has two siblings, sister Cary Meade Hobgood and brother Armand Banks Alexander, III.

She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she studied Education. She travelled the world with her military husband and their children, which gave her the opportunity to teach in schools to 5 and 6 year old children in churches. Helen was recruited by the Baptist Student Union in Bangkok, Thailand to teach English as a second language to Thai students. While residing in Shelbyville, due to her husband's deployments, she served as a substitute teacher at Eakin Elementary School. Helen retired with her husband in Williamsburg, V.A., where she was a faithful member of the AGAPE Sunday School Class at the Walnut Hills Baptist Church in Williamsburg.

There will be a Memorial Service at Walnut Hills Baptist Church, 1014 Jamestown Rd., Williamsburg on May 13, 2013 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
