Eagleville, Tenn. – The Cascade Lady Champions (10-11, 3-3) completed the season sweep of the Eagleville Lady Eagles (11-15, 1-3) on the road, 44-40, on Tuesday night.
It was a surprisingly close game throughout, especially in the second half. Kaegan Young led the way for Cascade with a team-high 15 points, including 11 coming in the second half, while Sophie Ray scored eight of her 14 points in the opening 16 minutes.
For Eagleville, Meah Thompson, after scoring 17 points in the first matchup back on December 10th, led all scorers with 20 points on the night with 18 coming in the second half. She was also the only Lady Eagle to finish in double-figures.
Early on, neither team was able to get into any sort of rhythm on the offensive end as the Lady Champs took a 7-4 lead at the end of the opening period.
In the second quarter, Cascade ballooned their lead to as much as 10 points before a pair of Eagleville triples in the final 90 seconds of the half cut the lead to 17-10 at the break. Brinli Bain and Sophie Lamb each hit from downtown to bring the hosts right back within striking distance.
Coming out of the halftime locker room, Eagleville maintained the momentum as Thompson began to relentlessly attack the basket. She led all scorers with 12 points in the third quarter as the Lady Eagles outscored Cascade, 18-14, to trim the Lady Champs’ lead to just three points, 31-28, going into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, both teams reverted back to their first quarter identity. Eagleville had cut the lead to 33-31 with just under four minutes remaining before a lightning-quick 7-0 run by the Lady Champs all but put the game out of reach for the Lady Eagles with 2:45 left at 40-31.
Eagleville connected on a couple of desperation threes, but Kaegan Young, Kaydence Miller, and Sophie Ray combined to miss just two free throws in the latter-half of the fourth quarter, allowing the Lady Champs to escape Eagleville with their second-consecutive win, 44-40.
Cascade improves to 10-11 (3-3) and will hit the road to play Chapel Hill on Friday night, LIVE on The Zinger 100.9 and AM 1400 starting at 5:45 p.m.
