UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (13-6, 3-0) used a pair of home runs from Mattie Maxey and Ryleigh Lassiter to take down the Page Lady Patriots (17-4-1, 3-0) from Class AAA, 5-3, on Friday.

Kamryn Farrell got the start in the circle for the hosts, pitching 3.0 innings and giving up just one earned run on four hits and three walks with one strikeout on 51 pitches. Annie Prince came on in relief for the final 4.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts on 73 pitches.

For Page, Ashley Johnson started and pitched 6.0 innings, giving up five runs – four earned – on 10 hits and two walks with eight strikeouts on 109 pitches.

Community got the scoring started early and often. First, Anna Haskins led off with a single before Farrell doubled to bring her home. Then, Maxey launched Johnson’s 2-2 pitch to straightaway center field for a 2-run home run, giving the hosts a 3-0 lead after one.

In the second inning, Lassiter connected on an 0-2 pitch and drove it to center field as well for a leadoff home run, giving Community a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Page finally got on the board when Anna Johnson launched a solo home run – her sixth of the season – to trim the lead to 4-1. The hosts would get that run back in the bottom of the third to regain their four-run advantage, 5-1.

Prince was inserted into the circle in the top of the fourth inning, and the Lady Patriots greeted the Viqueens’ ace with two runs in the inning to trim the lead to 5-3. However, these would be the final runs scored by either team as Prince settled down to secure the Community win.

At the plate, the Viqueens totaled 10 hits as a team. Anna Haskins led off by going 1-for-4, Farrell went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double, and Maxey finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and her team-leading fifth home run of the season. Haylee Webb was 1-for-3, Kailani Allen went 1-for-3, and Lassiter finished 2-for-3 with one RBI on her fourth homer of the year. Alana Tate also went 1-for-3.

The Viqueens return to District 9-AA play on Tuesday at Summertown with first-pitch set for 5:30 p.m.
