FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. – Despite trailing early on, the Cascade Champions (3-1) rolled past the Fayetteville City Tigers (0-4), 85-64 in an impressive road win on Friday night.
Kaleb Kelso set a new career-high with 28 points, Henry Stone scored 23 of his season-high 24 points in the second half, and Cascade outscored the Tigers 53-32 in the second half to turn a two-point halftime deficit into a convincing 21-point win. The Champs forced 25 turnovers that led to 25 points while committing just eight themselves, and they also outscored Fayetteville City, 46-20, in the paint. The Tigers made 10 threes to Cascade’s five, but the relentless nature of the Champs’ attack eliminated the advantage. Cooper McElroy added 12 points for the visitors while Tyler Rodgers chipped in with 11 points.
Brayden Arnold finished with 18 points for the hosts, followed by Jack Fincher’s 12 points.
Early on, the Tigers jumped out to an eight-point lead before ending the opening period up by five, 20-15. In the second quarter, Cascade held the Tigers to 14 points, trimming the lead to 34-32 heading into the halftime locker room.
However, Cascade came out looking like a different team in the second half, and it all started with Henry Stone’s aggressiveness attacking the basket on the offensive end. Stone scored 13 of his 21 second-half points in the period to give the Champs a 56-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Kaleb Kelso took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 of his game-high 28 points in the final frame as the Champs’ lead swelled to more than 20 points. He also finished with six rebounds and five steals. Meanwhile, Stone finished with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals as well as connecting on his first three-pointer of the season.
Cascade improves to 3-1, but will be put to the test as they return home against Richland on Tuesday night, LIVE on The Zinger 100.9 and AM 1400 starting at 5:45 p.m.
