SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (8-12, 3-1) ended Homecoming night inside of Rick Insell Gymnasium with a dominant showing in a blowout win over District 9-AAAA foe, the Spring Hill Raiders (1-12, 0-3), 75-38, on Friday.
The Golden Eagles and Raiders went back-and-forth early on, trading baskets until about the four-minute mark of the first quarter when Shelbyville closed on a 10-0 run to end the quarter up by 14 points, 18-4. Tae’Shawn Shelton crashed the offensive boards and collected three buckets for six points for Shelbyville while teammates Billy Brown Jr. and Jevon Lee dropped in a two apiece to account for 10 of the 18 first quarter points.
Shelbyville’s Shelton connected on another two buckets and added two points from the charity stripe to collect six more in the second quarter. Shelbyville Central outscored Spring Hill, 22-11, in the second quarter to push their lead to 21 points at halftime, 34-15. Dalton Resta and Elijah Carter hit for five and six points respectively to account for Spring Hill’s point total in the quarter.
Lee then took command of the Eagles offense coming out of the halftime locker room and fought inside the paint to connect on six field goals for 12 of his 14 points on the night. Jack Conditt connected on a three-pointer and tacked on a two-pointer of his own for five more to chip in on Shelbyville’s 23 total points for that quarter. The Raiders simply could not connect on enough shots to keep up with the Eagles despite Carter hitting a two and going 4/4 from the foul line for six points. By the end of the quarter, the Eagles held a commanding 27-point lead, 57-30.
The fourth quarter did not bode well for the Raiders as they only collected eight points total. Carter finished as the high scorer for Spring Hill with 19 points. Shelton was the top point collector for the Eagles, finishing with 16 points on the night. Lee chipped in with 14 points wihle Brown added nine points of his own. Idris Gray tacked on six and Conditt, Malek Johnson and Jordan Taylor all ended the game with five apiece. The Eagles crushed the Raiders by 37 points, 75-38.
Shelbyville Central’s next game will be a district contest against the Columbia Lions in Columbia on Tuesday, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 starting at 5:45 p.m.
