FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (16-10, 4-2) dropped their second-consecutive District 6-4A game in a foul-filled trip to Lincoln County (17-5, 3-2), 61-54, on Tuesday night.
The Falcons, who lost 80-75 in the first meeting on Jan. 13, earned a split in the season series after finishing 25-of-31 at the free throw line. Diesen Ogle tied for the game-high with 17 points, including 11 in the first half alone to keep the hosts in the game.
For Shelbyville, Jevon Lee once again showed out in district play by scoring a team-high 17 points, but he was the only Golden Eagle to reach double-digits. The visitors shot just 14 free throws, ending the game 10-of-14 at the line.
Early on, Lee was unstoppable for the Golden Eagles. The sophomore forward, who was an All-District performer a season ago, outdueled the Falcons’ Ogle, putting up 13 points in the opening period alone while Ogle scored nine. As a result, the visitors managed to take a 19-16 lead at the end of one.
Lee was shut out in the second stanza, but Shelbyville still managed to hold onto a one-point lead at halftime, 29-28. Lincoln County saw six different players score in the period, but all six scored just two points apiece. Meanwhile, Jack Conditt knocked down one of just two made three-pointers by the Golden Eagles in the quarter, Tae’Shawn Shelton added three points, and both Jordan Taylor and Tommie Cannon tacked on two points apiece.
Coming out for the second half, Lincoln County continued to rack up the fouls on the visitors, drawing seven in the third quarter and turning them into nine free throw attempts. The Falcons converted on six of them, and they outscored Shelbyville, 16-13, in the period to take a 44-42 lead heading into the final frame. Malek Johnson hit the visitors’ second and final three of the night as part of his five points in the stanza to lead his team.
In the fourth quarter, Lincoln County managed to close out the Golden Eagles at the free throw line, finishing 13-of-16 at the charity stripe in the period to hold off any late rally from Shelbyville. Lee scored four points while both Conditt and Johnson scored three, but Tommie Cannon fouled out late and Shelbyville could not buy an outside shot to spark a rally.
Lincoln County improves to 17-5 overall.
Shelbyville falls to 16-10 overall. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to travel to District 6-4A foe Warren County on Friday night with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
