SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – Shelbyville Central hosted Warren County on Thursday to open District 9-AA play on the tennis courts with the Golden Eagles (2-0, 1-0) taking down the Pioneers, 8-0, while the Eaglettes (0-2, 0-1) suffered an 8-1 defeat to the Pioneerettes.
In the Eaglettes’ doubles matches, Lilly Smith and Lydia Yoes fell to Izzy Pitts and Abby Graves 8-3 on Court One while Jackie Juarez and Evony Smith were outlasted by Anna Graves and Natalie Payne on Court Two.
In the singles matchups, Shelbyville’s Lilly Smith took down Izzy Pitts, 8-4, on Court One to earn the Eaglettes’ only point of the day. Yoes fell to Abby Graves, 8-0, on Court Two, Juarez also was swept, 8-0, on Court Three, while Evony Smith suffered defeat against Anna Graves on Court Four, 8-2. On Court Five, Warren County’s Natalie Payne took down Joselyn Morales, and Georgia Frazier fell to Lina Jaco, 8-4, on Court Six.
In the boys’ doubles, Henry Stone and Tucker Johnson made quick work of Joshua Caten and Britton Mayfield, 8-1, on Court One while Carter Watson and Tanner Johnson swept Christopher Sandoval and Sabastion Campos 8-0 on Court Two.
In singles, Stone swept Caten 8-0 on Court One, Tucker Johnson dispatched Mayfield 8-1 on Court Two, and Watson outlasted Sandoval 8-4 on Court Three. On Court Four, Tanner Johnson took care of Campos by a score of 8-2, and Daniel Hernandez made quick work of Truett Jackson, 8-0, on Court Five.
The Eaglettes fall to 0-2 on the year while the Golden Eagles improve to 2-0. Shelbyville Central returns to action on March 10th at Coffee County in another district matchup at 2:00 p.m.
