McMINNVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (6-12, 1-1) fell on the road in their second District 9-AAAA matchup to the Warren County Pioneers (12-3, 2-0) on Friday night, 65-48.

Following the exhilarating OT win to open district play against Coffee County, the Golden Eagles came back down to Earth against the Pioneers despite Tae’Shawn Shelton’s game-high 19 points. Jevon Lee was the only other Golden Eagle to finish in double-figures with 12 points, all coming in the second half.

For Warren County, Devin Fish finished with a team-high 17 points while Chance Whitlock and Keyton Reno also finished in double-figures with 14 points and 11 points, respectively. Deashaion Adams chipped in with eight points of his own. The biggest difference in the game was that the Pioneers shot 22/30 at the free throw line as a team compared to Shelbyville’s 11/17 mark from the charity stripe.

To start the game, the Pioneers came out of the gates on a tear, outscoring Shelbyville, 22-9, with six different players scoring at least one field goal. For SCHS, Shelton connected on a three-pointer, Zyon Bonner and Jordan Taylor each sank a field-goal, and Malek Johnson knocked in a pair of free-throws.

Warren County tamed the offensive production in the second quarter, but they seemed to ramp up the defensive intensity, holding Shelbyville Central to just four points in the period. The Pioneers scored 14 themselves, assuming a commanding 36-13 lead going into the halftime locker room.

Shelbyville seemed to wake up a bit on the offensive end to start the second half, especially Jevon Lee, who scored seven points in the quarter but shot eight free throws. Shelton also scored seven points, but Warren County scored 17 points to nearly match Shelbyville’s 19, allowing the Pioneers to maintain a 21-point lead going into the final frame, 53-32

In the fourth quarter, the result was a formality despite Shelbyville outscoring Warren County, 16-12, to cut the final lead to 17 points, 65-48.

Warren County improves to 12-3 (2-0).

Shelbyville falls to 9-6 (1-1) but is scheduled to return home and continue district play against Lincoln County on Tuesday, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 starting at 5:45 p.m.
