Unionville, Tenn. – The Community Vikings (12-12, 1-4) dropped another District 9-AA matchup to the Cannon County Lions (18-7, 7-1) on Tuesday night, 75-58.

The first matchup between these two came on January 14, with the Lions winning at home comfortably, 82-52. Unfortunately for the hometown Vikings, the second time around wasn’t that much different as Cannon County locked up the number one seed in the upcoming district tournament in the process.

Miles Alexander, who had 32 points in the first meeting, led all scorers with a game-high 21 points, connecting on four three-pointers in the process. Antonio Jones got going with 18 points of his own while Lukas Phillips connected on a trio of triples as part of his 16-point night.

Community’s Landon Lovvorn found the range in the fourth quarter with three three-pointers, finishing with a team-high 18 points. Charlie Haskins chipped in with 16 points of his own while Austin Stickler tallied up 11 points on the night.

To start, Alexander connected on a pair of threes, prompting Cannon County to take a 14-10 lead at the end of the opening period. Eli Pelham, Zeke Walkup, and Jones each contributed with a two-point field goal to go with Alexander ending the first quarter with a two-pointer of his own. Lovvorn got going with six points early on while Stickler and Jaxson Williams each put in two points.

In the second quarter, the Lions connected on five threes as a team, pushing their first-half total to seven made three-pointers. Anderson Lava hit a pair, Alexander added another one, and Phillips and Jones connected on one apiece. Community tried to keep up, dropping in three three-pointers of their own, but they were outscored as a team, 21-17, in the period. Haskins scored a team-high six points in the quarter while Williams, Lovvorn, and Stickler each knocked in a three, but Community still trailed at the half, 35-27.

Coming out of the halftime locker room, Phillips and Jones began to attack the basket with an increased aggression, combining for 10 points and converting on 5/6 attempts from the charity stripe. Jones hit another three as well. Alexander also tacked on a pair of free-throws as the Lions outscored the Vikings, 16-13, in the third quarter. Haskins scored a team-high eight points in the period, including a three-pointer, but Community still trailed by 11 points, 51-40.

In the final frame, Cannon County kept their foot on the gas, outscoring the Vikings by six, 24-18, to come away with the convincing 17-point victory, 75-58. Lovvorn hit a trio of threes to bring Community’s team total to eight on the night, but Cannon County countered with 11 triples and made 10/13 free throws compared to the Vikings’ 4/11 mark at the line.

Community falls to 12-12 (1-4) but will look to rebound with a trip to Grundy County coming up on Friday night.
