Vikes Get Back to Winning Ways Against Central Magnet

UNIONVILLE, Tenn. - The Community Vikings took the lead early and never looked back in their 14-point home win on Wednesday night over the Central Magnet Tigers of Murfreesboro, 58-44.

With six minutes left in the first quarter, the Vikes had already gone on an 8-0 to start the game courtesy of Jaxson Williams’ and Landon Lovvorn’s two buckets apiece. Community’s defensive rebounding made the lay-ups look easy and they took the lead, 11-9, and never trailed Central Magnet the rest of the game.

In the second quarter, Community’s Charlie Haskins banked in shot after shot from the 2:20 mark until the clock wound down to 1:03 left in the first half, including a three-pointer. He scored 11 of the Vikes’  22 points in the second quarter while Landon Lovvorn added four more to his total tally. Community’s defense was stifling, making every field goal attempt difficult from the Tigers all period and held their opponents to just eight points, going into the halftime locker room with a commanding 33-17 lead.

Central Magnet tried to battle back when Carter Stage, who finished the night with 14 points, connected on an early three as their first points of the third quarter, but Community had already claimed a comforting lead. The Tigers only hit three of 10 from the foul line on the night. Lovvorn tagged a triple from the high corner and Williams short jumper for two more had the Vikings in good standing at the end of the quarter with 13-point lead 44-31.

Connor Ward drained a three from the corner for his only points of the night and three of the Tigers 13 for the fourth quarter, but Community scored 14 of points to ensure they did not lose their lead. Haskins collected four more for his total of 16 in the period. Lovvorn ended the night with 15 of his own while Austin Stickler added six of his eight total in the last quarter to put the finishing touches on their 14-point win over Central Magnet, 58-44.

Community travels to York Institute on Saturday for their next game.
