LYNCHBURG, Tenn. – The Community Vikings (11-5) survived a 29-point performance by Colton Morey on Tuesday to take home a non-district road victory over Moore County (2-11), 67-51.
Charlie Haskins led the Vikings with 20 points alongside Jaxon Williams’ 17-point outing to offset the offensive explosion from the Raiders’ Morey. Andrew Tocchio also reached double-figures with 10 points on the night.
Meanwhile, for Moore County, Anderson Sharpe was the only other Raider to reach the 10-point mark, finishing with 10 points exactly as the Raiders struggled to find consistent offense outside of Morey’s 29 points.
Morey opened the game by scoring 12 of Moore County’s 15 first-quarter points as the Raiders took a 15-12 lead at the end of the opening period. Williams found the range from outside early by connecting on a pair of triples in the frame to lead the visitors.
In the second quarter, Haskins nailed a pair of three-pointers, bringing his first-half point total to eight heading into the break. As a team, Community managed to outscore the Raiders by three, 14-11, to draw level at 26 heading into the halftime locker room.
To start the second half, the Vikings’ offense quickly found its rhythm with three different players nailing a three-pointer en route to a 22-point period. Williams once again led the way for Community, scoring seven points in the period, and the Vikings’ defense held Morey to just five points in the third.
The visitors took a 48-40 lead into the final frame, and it was a lead that they would not relinquish. Community outscored Moore County 19-11 in the fourth quarter to take home the 16-point road win. Haskins scored seven more points in the period to lead the Vikes while Karson Boyce added six of his eight total points in the fourth to pull away from the Raiders. Morey did connect on two more treys, finishing the game by scoring nine of his team’s 11 points in the quarter.
The Vikings improve to 11-5 overall. Community begins District 9-AA play on Friday night at home against Summertown with the first game starting at 6:00 p.m.
