LYNCHBURG, Tenn. – The Community Vikings (6-2) started strong and never looked back in Friday’s dominant 80-42 win at Moore County (0-4).
Johnathan Lawwel scored 17 of his season-high 19 points in the first half for the Vikings, connecting on three three-pointers in the process. Charlie Haskins added 16 points while Josh Powers and Andrew Tocchio – who hit a trio of three-pointers yet again – chipped in with 11 points.
Colton Morey led Moore County with a team-high 16 points with 14 of them coming in the first half, but he was the only Raider to reach double-figures on the night.
The opening period was a high-scoring affair as Community raced out to a 26-18 lead at the end of the first quarter. Lawwel scored nine in the quarter to pace the Vikings, Haskins added six, and Tocchio chipped in with five. In the second quarter, however, Community tightened the screws a bit defensively, holding the hosts to 12 points as the lead swelled to 50-30 heading into the halftime locker room. The Vikings also connected on five three-pointers in the quarter to buoy the offensive total.
In the third period, Community simmered down from outside, but still grew its advantage by outscoring Moore County, 15-10, to take a 65-40 lead into the final frame.
The Vikings held the Raiders to just two points in the fourth quarter – a field goal from little-used Rylan Stovall – while the visitors kept their foot on the gas, scoring 15 more points to reach the final margin of 80-42.
Community has Tuesday off this week, but they will host Clay County on Friday night at roughly 7:30 p.m.
