UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Vikings (7-4) struggled to generate consistent offense after the first quarter of their rematch with Eagleville (9-0), falling 81-48 on Tuesday night.
Camden Cole was borderline unstoppable for the Eagles, scoring a game-high 23 points. Adrian Sevieri added 16 points, and James Bega chipped in with 12, but it was really the stifling defense of the visitors that caused the most problems.
Community hit just four three-pointers –three coming from Andrew Tocchio – and Community’s leading scorer, Charlie Haskins, was held to just nine points all night, including just three in the first half. Tocchio led the Vikings with 11 points while Jaxon Williams added 10 points on the night.
Early on, Community kept things close, trailing by just four points at the end of the opening period of play, 20-16. Williams netted seven of his points in the first quarter alone while Cole netted nine for the Eagles.
In the second quarter, Tocchio found the range with a pair of three-pointers on top of a pair of free throws. Meanwhile, Sevieri matched Tocchio with eight points of his own on a pair of triples, leading Eagleville to outscore the Vikings, 19-11, to take a 39-27 lead going into the halftime locker room.
Coming out for the second half, Cole once again stamped his impact on the game, scoring eight more points in the third quarter alone to lead the visitors to a 22-point lead going into the final frame, 59-37. After being shut out in the second quarter, Haskins managed to score three points in the third, matched by Tocchio connected on his third and final three-pointer of the night.
In the final period, Owen McClaren opened with a pair of three-pointers to jump-start the Eagles’ 21-point fourth quarter. Community put up 11 points of their own with Haskins, Logan Reed, and Masyn Hill all chipping in with three points apiece.
Community falls to 7-4 overall. The Vikings continue their homestand on Thursday night against Murfreesboro Central Magnet at 7:30 p.m.
