CORNERSVILLE, Tenn. – First-year Head Coach Hunter Ferrell secured his first piece of hardware on Wednesday night after the Community Vikings (4-1) prevailed over Grace Christian-Franklin (2-3) to win their third game in three days and take home first place at the Cornersville Thanksgiving Tournament.

On Monday, Community blew out Mt. Pleasant, 68-33, before dispatching Cornersville, 49-36, to advance to the championship game.

Charlie Haskins led all scorers with 20 points for Community, Jaxson Williams added 17 points, and Andrew Tocchio connected on four massive three-pointers to finish with 16 points.

Meanwhile for the Lions, Luke Lohrding scored a team-high 14 points, Jackson Holwd added 13 points, and Sam Lohrding and Chase Benham each chipped in with 11 points.

Community outshot the Lions, 32-14, at the free-throw line, connecting on 22/32 attempts at the charity stripe as they relentlessly attacked the basket all night long. In the opening period, Haskins and Williams combined for 13 of the Vikings’ 17 points to take a 17-12 lead after one.

The Purple-and-Gold extended its lead in the second quarter, outscoring Grace Christian, 18-13, to take a 35-25 lead into the halftime locker room. Tocchio erupted for 14 points in the period, connecting on three treys to grow the lead.

In the third quarter, Haskins began to take over. He scored nine of Community’s 23 points in the period, connecting on all four free throws early on then finding the distance from downtown once before he tacked on another layup. Williams added seven points after he connected on his second three-pointer of the night, and Tocchio made good on his fourth and final triple in the period to send the Vikings into the final frame with a 58-45 lead.

The Lions did make a late push, but despite outscoring Community, 21-17, it was not enough to threaten the Vikings. Haskins went 5/8 at the line, Josh Powers connected on a pair of two-point field goals, and Community held on to take home first place, 75-66.

Community improves to 4-1 and are set to host Eagleville on Monday night.
