HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (22-6, 6-0) picked up five consecutive victories on Friday and Saturday to take home first place in the Griffin Classic.
Community outscored its opponents a combined 40-16 en route to the title, including a 17-4 walloping of Brentwood Academy in the first game on Friday after four innings, an 8-7 nailbiter over Westmoreland in the second game on Friday that was called in the fourth inning, followed by a 4-3 win over Beech in five innings, an 8-1 victory over Brentwood Academy in six innings, and a 3-1 win over Westmoreland in the Championship Game on Saturday.
GAME ONE
First up, Community scored 17 runs without reply in the first matchup against the Lady Eagles (14-8, 9-2) to take a 17-0 lead before conceding four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Annie Prince pitched the first 2.0 innings, giving up a single hit while striking out four batters on 25 pitches before giving way to Haylee Webb. Webb recorded the final six outs to trigger the run-rule, giving up four earned runs on two hits – including a home run – and two walks with one strikeout on 47 pitches.
The Viqueens plated two in the first, six in the second, one in the third, and eight in the fourth before Brentwood Academy scored four in the bottom of the fourth.
At the plate for Community, Anna Haskins led off by going 1-for-3, Kamryn Farrell went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Mattie Maxey finished 1-for-1 with three RBIs, her sixth home run of the year, and a walk. Gracie Daniel was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple, Webb went 2-for-3, and Kailani Allen finished 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs. Annie Prince went 2-for-3 with a double, Alana Tate was 3-for-3, and Kenzie Tucker finished 1-for-1 with an RBI off the bench.
GAME TWO
In the nightcap on Friday, the Viqueens took down Westmoreland (12-9, 2-0), 8-7, after four innings due to time constraints.
Haylee Webb started in the circle for Community, pitching 3.0 innings and giving up six earned runs on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout on 75 pitches. Farrell came on in relief, recording the final three outs and giving up just one earned run on two hits on 22 pitches.
The Viqueens took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first, but Westmoreland replied with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Community plated one more in the second to take a 6-2 lead, but again Westmoreland fought back, this time with three runs to trim the lead to 6-5.
The Lady Eagles tacked on one more in the third to tie the game at 6-6, but the Viqueens plated two more of their own in the top of the fourth to take an 8-6 lead, Farrell gave up just the one run in the home half to secure the win.

GAME THREE
On Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m., the Viqueens came back from a 3-0 deficit to take down Beech (8-12, 3-7), 4-3 after five innings due to time constraints.
Gracie Daniel pitched the complete 5.0 innings for Community, giving up three earned runs – all coming in the first inning – on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts and two home runs.
Beech’s Madison Pinkleton opened the game with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first, and she was immediately followed by Brianna Buckley connecting on a solo blast to take a 3-0 lead.
However, it took Community until the fourth inning, but they did eventually get those runs back, and then some. The Viqueens scored four in the top of the fourth, and Daniel continued to post zeros to seal the one-run victory.
At the plate for Community, Anna Haskins led off going 1-for-3 with an RBI, Farrell was 1-for-3, and Daniel finished 2-for-3. Haylee Webb went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, Kailani Allen was 2-for-3, and Ryleigh Lassiter finished 1-for-2 with a walk. Alana Tate went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
GAME FOUR
In the semifinals on Saturday, the Viqueens rematched with Brentwood Academy, but the end result stayed mostly the same with an 8-1 win after six innings.
Annie Prince pitched the first 2.0 innings, giving up just one hit with three strikeouts on 30 pitches. Arleigh Smith, a freshman, came on in relief, pitching the next 2.0 innings and giving up no hits and no runs with one walk on 27 pitches. Finally, Lassiter pitched the final 2.0 innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts on 51 pitches. The Viqueens committed four errors in the field
Community scored at least one run in all five innings it came to bat, including one in the first, two in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth. Brentwood Academy scored one in the top of the fifth to trim the lead to six runs, but the Viqueens got the run back in the home half.
At the plate for the Viqueens, Haskins led off going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Farrell was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Daniel finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Allen was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Webb went 1-for-2, and Maxey finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Prince went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Tate was 1-for-3, and Brooklyn Yoes finished 2-for-2.
GAME FIVE
Finally, in the fifth and final game of the weekend, the Community Viqueens won the Griffin Classic Championship with a 3-1 win over Westmoreland in a rematch.
Annie Prince pitched a complete game and was utterly dominant, striking out a whopping 16 batters while giving up just one earned run on three hits with no walks on just 82 pitches. Of her 82 pitches, 62 of them (75.6%) were strikes.
Community plated two in the bottom of the first inning when Kailani Allen drove home both Farrell and Daniel, but Westmoreland trimmed the lead in half with one unearned run in the top of the fourth. However, the Viqueens tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning when Farrell’s sacrifice-fly scored Ryleigh Lassiter to take a 3-1 advantage into the final two innings.
At the plate for the Viqueens, Anna Haskins led off going 1-for-3, Farrell went 0-2 with an RBI and a run scored, and Daniel finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Allen was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double, Maxey went 1-for-3, Alana Tate was 2-for-3 with a double, and Lassiter finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
The Viqueens turn their eyes to Senior Night on Tuesday against Loretto at 5:30 p.m. before wrapping up the District 9-AA regular season with a trip to Cascade on Friday.
