LYNNVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens, after a triple overtime loss earlier in the week, held their own for three quarters against the Richland Lady Raiders until the final frame, falling by just four points, 50-46.
The Lady Raiders came out hot hitting three three-pointers for nine of their first quarter points. The Viqueens responded by connecting on three of their own threes to outscore Richland 19-12 in the first period. Viqueen Anna Haskins dropped in a three from the side of the court to account for three of her seven while Sara Flannagan added one three and a two-pointer. Viqueen Taylor Wessner connected on the other trey to pull Community ahead by the end of the first.
Community's Haskins dropped in three more three-pointers to collect all nine of the Viqueens points in the second quarter. Richland picked up a few turnovers and turned them into a two-pointer and three more treys for part of their 14 points they collected this quarter. Bailey Blair hit for eight of Richland's points including two threes. The Lady Raiders were still behind, but had lessened the Viqueen's lead, although the scoreboard at halftime still had Community winning by two points, 28-26.
Alyssa White connected with three buckets under the basket during the third quarter. Wessner swished in another three pointer to collect nine between them of the 11 Viqueens points during the third period, but the Viqueens were slowly losing their offensive advantage. Only scoring 11 points against Richland’s 13, Community now was tied at 39 entering the final frame.
Lady Raider Blair came on the floor shooting and connecting with two threes of Richland's total 11 in the fourth to finally push them ahead of the Viqueens at the four minute mark, 45-42. Haskins dropped in another three for the Community and ended with a game high of 21 points and a total of five three-pointers for the game. Mattie Maxey collected four of her six for the game, one bucket at the eight second mark, but it still wasn't enough to pull out a last minute win against Richland, sending Community home with a four-point loss, 50-46. White ended with eight, Wessner with six and Flannagan with five for the Viqueens.
The Community Viqueens will go against district foe, Cannon County, at home on Tuesday starting at 6:00pm.
