Viqueens Outlast Lady Rockets in District Clash

UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (11-7, 3-0) remained undefeated in District 9-AA play after grounding Chapel Hill (7-8, 1-2) in an 8-6 win on Tuesday night.

The Viqueens took advantage of a trio of timely errors from the Lady Rockets to generate a pair of knockout innings and give themselves enough of a cushion for a late-inning Chapel Hill surge.

The visitors got the scoring started early after a leadoff double from Hailee Warren went over the head of Anna Haskins in centerfield before a two-out, two-strike connection from Lillian Miller brought both Miller and Warren to the plate as the ball flew over the wall in right field for a home run.

Community immediately responded in the home half when a Gracie Daniel infield RBI-single led to an error by the first baseman to score Kamryn Farrell for the hosts’ third run of the inning.

The Viqueens would score one more in the third to take a 4-2 lead before exploding for four runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 8-2 advantage.

To the Lady Rockets’ credit, they fought back with three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh, but it was ultimately too little, too late.

Annie Prince didn’t have her best stuff in the circle, but she competed against a tough Chapel Hill lineup to earn the win. The Viqueens’ ace went 7.0 complete innings, giving up six runs – five earned – on just five hits and three walks with nine strikeouts on 116 pitches. Miller took her deep twice for five of the six runs from the visitors, and her second homer came in the sixth inning to score all three of those runs.

Meanwhile, Community’s offense picked up where they left off in Ft. Walton, totalling 14 hits against Taylor Moreland. Chapel Hill’s ace was hovering at around 62-64 mph, but that didn’t bother the Viqueens who took advantage of a trio of Lady Rocket errors to score eight runs. Moreland’s line finished with her having given up eight runs – three earned – on 14 hits and four walks with just four strikeouts on 118 pitches.

At the plate for Community, Anna Haskins led off and went 2-for-4, Haylee Webb was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored, and Kailani Allen finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Kamryn Farrell went 2-for-3, Daniel was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Ryleigh Lassiter finished 3-for-4. Alana Tate also went 1-for-3.

Miller led the Lady Rockets at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs that totaled five RBIs.

The Viqueens are set to host Page on Friday at 5:30 p.m. before returning to District 9-AA play at Summertown on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
