CHAPEL HILL, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (10-11, 1-3) picked up their first District 9-AA win on Tuesday night, taking down Chapel Hill (13-7, 0-3), 50-32 on the road.

The Viqueens were led by Anna Haskins, who finished with a team-high 15 points. Savannah Pearson reached double-figures with 11 points while Mattie Maxey and Alyssa White added eight points apiece.

The Lady Rockets were led by Baeliy Stalnecker’s team-high 15 points, but she was the only player for the hosts to crack double-digits.

As a team, Community was able to dominate at the free throw line, shooting 23-for-26 at the line for their best performance of the season. Maxey connected on all six of her attempts in the fourth quarter while Haskins went 9-for-12 on the night.

Early on, both teams struggled to get anything going offensively, but the Viqueens did manage to take an 8-2 lead at the end of the opening period thanks to four free throws from Haskins.

In the second quarter, Pearson helped keep the visitors in front with three connections from downtown while Stalnecker led Chapel Hill with eight points in the period. Community managed to hold onto a five-point lead, 21-16, heading into the halftime locker room.

Coming out for the second half, Haskins began to assert herself, knifing her way to the basket for a couple of layups before nailing all four of her free throw attempts in the third quarter, giving the Viqueens a 33-26 lead heading into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, the Viqueens managed to flip the narrative on their free throw struggles this season, nailing 13-of-14 free throw attempts in the period to pull away from the hosts. Maxey led the way by knocking down all six of her attempts, and the Community defense held the Lady Rockets to just one field goal in the final period of play and six points in total, running away to win by 18 points, 50-32.

The Viqueens improve to 10-11 overall. Community is tentatively scheduled to host Class A’s No. 1 ranked team, Richland, in a non-district affair on Friday, weather permitting, at 6:00 p.m.
